Fun Holiday Celebration Family Activities for Eid al Fitr or Eid al Adha
If Eid comes around and you’re bored, again, then you’re not doing it the right way! After a long month of fasting for Ramadan or an extensive Hijra trip, reward yourself and your family with some fun activities you can share and laugh about for days. Here are some great ideas you may find will be enjoyable for all ages.
Play Games
You can prepare family games to make everyone smile. Plan a mystery game where you leave hints around the house and family members have to solve riddles you provide. This will be a fun activity as everyone runs around trying to find all the hints and solve the riddle. The winners get a prize! Another idea is to play dance-off games, where each person has to mimic the other’s smooth moves. If they miss a move or a beat, they’re out! Charades is a family favorite. This is where one person is given a secret word and they have to act out what the word means. Everyone else has to guess what they are doing. This can also be done by drawing sketches instead of acting it out. The first team to guess correctly wins. Lastly, don’t forget fun board games that everyone enjoys, such as Monopoly, Jenga, Scrabble, Clue, and Battleship.
Volunteer Together
If you want to carry on the pious energy of Ramadan or the holy pilgrimage, consider volunteering as a family. You can go to a food shelter and hand out food. Another idea is to pack necessities into a few old shoeboxes and donate them to a local charity that sends out care packages to children in need. Another idea is to create toiletry bags for families in need of supplies and hand them about as your own holiday gift. These are simple expenses necessary for hygiene that not everyone can afford. If you know a family that can’t afford Eid dinner, cover their groceries for them.
Plant a Tree as a Family
If you love the idea of building something for the long-term for you and your family, you can plant an heirloom tree and watch it grow over the years. If you don’t have a backyard or a home, try to pick a tree that can be trimmed or is dwarf-size. You can even consider a bonsai tree, which can live up to 200 years or more. Pick a tree that is meaningful to you and your family, that is a favorite flower or a fruit you can all enjoy.
