How Do I Pick the Perfect Color Scheme?
Did you know that mood and tone are a major component for influencing how your guests experience your party? You should make your guests feel as if they’ve entered a totally different environment; one different from where they just stepped out of and one that’s hopefully enjoyable and not stressful. The mood that you are creating for your event has to take into consideration the timing, whether it’s in the morning, evening, or night, as well as the season and time of year. However, colors have an even more dramatic effect when it comes to emotions, which is why paying special attention to the overlap and “temperature” of specific colors is a critical factor. For example, softer and more pastel colors can be more gentle or romantic, while dark rich colors represent an important or elegant event.
Research scientists have proven that color is incredibly connected to not only our emotions, but also our mental wellness and how we think. Those who prefer a color often has to do with how that color makes the individual feel deep within. When light enters the eye, the wavelength of the color is converted into a signal that the brain can understand. This energy is how the brain interprets the color, and each wavelength can evoke a specific response, even changing the level of hormones within the body.
So what exactly do certain colors mean? For starters, yellow is one of the brightest colors and it is the most eye-catching. It can raise pulse rate and blood pressure, and causes your memory to sharpen. It is said that yellow can help stimulate you to remember things you often forget.
Red, however, is the most tantalizing and has the greatest affect on the blood pressure and heart rate. It causes the body to become hotter, and excites the nervous system. It also can increase respiration. Out of all the colors, red is the one that stimulates the brain the most.
Pink, on the other hand, causes the body to relax. It is known to have a soothing influences on the nervous system. Because of its ability to tranquilize and relax people, it is often incorporated in professional help or medical centers.
Green is a color that encourages new beginnings, feelings of hope and high expectations. Although it is calming, it also has a feeling of newness and freshness. It can help in preventing impulsive behaviors, as well as anxiety, and also stimulate a feeling of change and motivation.
Blue is an incredibly cooling color. Just as staring into the sky and into the ocean can have a calming effect, the color blue can help bring down the respiration, heart rate, and blood pressure of the body. It also represents intelligence and philosophical thinking.
Purple is unique in that it combines both blue and red, allowing it to have some of the more relaxing qualities of blue, but also the heightened awareness of red. It is commonly representative of power, nobility, ambition, and wealth. But it is also know to be spiritual, creative, magical, mysterious, and a color of wisdom. It’s colors are vivid and sultry, stimulating day dreams.
Orange is the color of strength and sustainability. It has the joy and happiness of yellow, but also the intensive energy of red. It encourages enthusiasm, success, motivation, longevity, and creativity.
Red is the warmest, orange following next, then yellow. Green is cool, but blue is the coolest, with indigo and violet also being cool colors. Grey, tan, beige, and browns are all neutral colors.
Here are some examples of color schemes:
Monochromatic: Multiple shades and levels of colors that are found within the same hue.
Analogous colors: Colors that sit side beside, but have more contrast than monochromatic colors.
Complementary: These colors are polar opposites and sit across from each other on the color wheel. When blended together they can create black or white.
If you enjoy social gatherings and want an energetic and encouraging environment, warm colors would work well. If you want to focus and cool down, and have quiet time, cooler colors would be better.
Once you decide what would be the ideal color palette for your ideal mood, you can isolate which colors would work best. It could be shades of one color, such as shades of red, maroon, pink, or even a combination of colors that fit together, like grey, blue, and green.
