May is always busy for us! Mother’s Day, Graduation and of course, Weddings! Here is a sneak peek of one of our weddings from this past weekend at Above at the Redmont Hotel in Birmingham. Our fabulous bride Malloy used shades of white, green, blue and then a pop of yellow for her flowers. The flowers we used while designing were hydrangeas, roses, tulips, craspedia, delphinium, lisianthus and our latest obsession, freesia! Such a beautiful event and we cannot wait to see her photos!

What is an LA lily?
Oriental lilies are a always a beautiful addition to a spring floral bouquet, however, some are so fragrant that some people do not want to have them in their arrangement! Well, there is good news! LA hybrid lilies are the perfect alternative since they are unscented. LA lilies are a hybrid of the commonly used Asiatic and Trumpet lilies. Other great qualities to these lilies, besides that they are non-fragrant, are that they are stronger than Asiatics and less expensive than Orientals. They come in a variety of colors too! We are using LA lilies this year for Mother’s Day along with Oriental lilies, so all of our customers can enjoy these gorgeous flowers!

hello spring!
After all of the cold weather we’ve been having, it seems that spring is finally here to stay! Spring is one of our favorite seasons because of all gorgeous flowers that bloom this time of year! Take a peek below of some of our recent spring bouquets and let us know which is your favorite in the comment section. These arrangements include viburnum, lilac, cabbage and tulips just to name a few. We’re also in love with these bright coral and peach gerbera daisies!
Prom: Every little bit helps!
Each year at prom, we ask the teachers at the local high school, to choose two to four students who would might need financial assistance during prom season, since it can get very expensive between a dress, a tux, dinner and tickets to the actual event! We then have two to four kids on student council wear some fun and fabulous corsages and boutonnieres to school a few weeks before prom to advertise for us and then in return we donate corsages and boutonnieres for the teenagers in need of some help. We always enjoy giving back to our community and this will be our 4th year of the prom donations!
Today we had student council representatives pick up a corsage set to wear tomorrow. Here is a photo of a matching red rose boutonniere and corsage set with fun leopard ribbon, red wire and pearls:
It’s great to get some free advertisement among the teens with prom, but even better when two teens are going to have extra help financially and also having a wonderful night just like everyone else!
We would like to thank the two students who are donating their corsages (we’re still hooking them up too
) because that says a lot about their character! Also, Mandi, our friend and the teacher, from Gardendale High School for helping us year after year with getting students.
Flashback Friday: March 2009 Wedding
Three years ago this month, we designed flowers for a small and intimate wedding at The Church at Blount Springs. Our bride, Marybeth, wanted a very organic look for her big day in shades of blue and purple. With flowers like freesia, sweet pea and agapanthus, her bridal bouquet looked hand picked and fresh from the garden!
Her Maid of Honor complimented her look with a bouquet of hydrangea and tweedia. For the Groom’s boutonniere, we went with freesia. Freesia is one of our favorite flowers for boutonnieres. This fragrant flower is modern yet classic for a Spring wedding.
This is a stand out wedding for us because the bride went with a different look and also wanted different flowers used in her bouquet. Below are more photos from this wedding. Enjoy!
One Prom down, three to go!
We have made it through our first round of our local high school’s proms this past weekend! It’s so much fun creating different looks for everyone with ribbon, rhinestones, glitter and wire. I can’t wait to see all of the photos on Facebook to see how beautiful the girls look and how fabulous their corsages look with their dresses! We hope all of the couples had a fabulous time! We saw lots of aquas, purples and metallics for this school’s big night! Check out a few of our favorites below.
So far, we are getting orders for more shades of blues and emerald green for our next two proms. We are very excited about these upcoming proms because the girls are getting a bit funky and wanting to add feathers and even more sparkle and bling to their corsages! We are looking forward to seeing how these will turn out! Can’t wait to post and share more photos!
Coral: Wedding color of the year!
While Pantone announced emerald green as the 2013 color of the year, I must say that I have noticed coral as a very popular wedding color for 2013. I have three brides this year who are accenting coral with navy, gray and pastels. Coral flowers look great with almost any shade so it’s easy to see why this has beome such a popular color for brides! I saw a friend and fellow floral designer this morning who was discussing flowers with a sales rep at our floral wholesaler, and he was researching roses in non other than coral! His bride was accenting coral with peach and taupe. Coral is definitely one of the top wedding colors for 2013. Below are some photos that show just how versatile this color is!
Coral works well with navy, soft teals, grays, purple and lavender, other pink shades, yellow and taupes.
